ABOUT HART HOUSE CAMERA CLUB
Founded in 1919, the Hart House Camera Club (HHCC) is one of North America’s oldest student photography clubs. HHCC embraces accessible and equal opportunities for learning by having the membership open to all with no prior experience or portfolio needed. HHCC’s mission is to help people understand photography as a powerful communication tool and help our members improve and deepen their photography skills by providing various programs including Photo Walks, Critical Salons, Open Studio, talks, presentations, etc. We offer workshops and classes covering image composition, lighting, editing, printing, and darkroom .
Our Darkroom offers chemicals and tools for members to develop black-and-white film and create prints from negatives. Our Digital Suite is used for scanning negatives and photo editing. The Suite has a scanner which can accommodate most negative types and access to Adobe Lightroom for image editing.
DARKROOM OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE
Position responsibilities:
- Communicating with curators regarding darkroom status updates and needs
- Mixing chemicals, cleaning and tidying the darkroom
- Answer questions of HHCC members and the public
Preferred qualities:
- Extensive knowledge of the darkroom and darkroom processes
- Ability to communicate quickly and effectively on Microsoft Teams and between curators
DIGITAL SUITE CURATOR
Position responsibilities:
- Monitoring the Digital Suite box and keeping it organized
- Keeping the HHCC desktop organized, including files and physical set up
- Responding to concerns and queries on Discord, via emails and Microsoft Teams
- Assisting members in using the Digital Suite
Preferred qualities:
- Be an active HHCC member
- Interested in teaching and sharing knowledge
- Be responsible for conducting curator hours
- Patience for teaching
COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS COORDINATOR
Position responsibilities:
- Posting about every HHCC event 1 week ahead of time with creative graphics on Instagram (grid posts and stories).
- Reposting every post 3 days before, 1 day before, and day of the event with Countdown and Reminder on Instagram
- Documenting each event with photos and videos, posting live stories and highlight recap post afterwards. Photos and videos will be passed on from other executive members.
- Reposting tagged posts by HHCC members on stories.
- Reposting content of HHCC partners (e.g. other Hart House Committees & Clubs, Downtown Camera, various event photography promotions).
- Posting event photography team recruitment details.
- Adding every HHCC event on Discord calendar and posting announcements for each event coming up.
- Responding to various HHCC member inquiries on Instagram and Discord as the first line of communications, forwarding inquiries to other executive members when required.
- Liaising with Hart House staff about event promotion and other related matters.
Preferred qualities:
- Experience with managing the socials account of another organization.
- Extensive knowledge of various social media post mechanisms, e.g. adding countdowns, reminders on Instagram posts and stories, creating collaborative posts via invite to partner accounts.
- Ability to respond to HHCC member inquiries quickly and effectively.
- Ability to commit to at least 2 hours a week (total) of overseeing Instagram and Discord promotion.
- Active social media user who is able to keep up with trends and new updates on social media apps.
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY COORDINATOR
Position responsibilities:
- Responding to each event photography inquiry via Asana and following up on necessary corrections or missing required information.
- Meeting with inquiring parties when the HHCC Co-Chair or HHCC Event Photography Director cannot meet with them.
- Assembling the event photography team for each event photography request if the HHCC Co-Chair or HHCC Event Photography Director are unavailable.
- Scouting venues, including taking note of venue lighting, various shot locations and potential shot charts, if the HHCC Co-Chair or HHCC Event Photography Director are unavailable.
- Some experience with event photography is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided if necessary.
Preferred qualities:
- Ability to coordinate requests and connect to HHCC roster of beginner or advanced event photographers.
- Ability to respond quickly to requests to set up additional meetings if necessary.
- Experience coordinating teams and team communications preferred.
- Ability to synthesize photography request details.
- Ability to coordinate and execute event photography requests if HHCC Co-Chair or HHCC Event Photography Director are unavailable. Training will be provided.
