35mm Film Cameras

Instructor: Micah Donovan

This introductory 3-hour workshop teaches the basic use of a film camera: understanding film exposure, the relationships between f-stops, shutter, and film speeds, while paying particular attention to the effects composition, light, and depth of field have on image quality. The instructor will provide photographic examples and slides. You are encouraged to ask questions related to your camera equipment.

Instructor:
Micah Donovan is a multi-media artist and television host whose work has appeared in major publications as well on Discovery Science, Food Network Canada, and Cooking Channel. He is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and the Kansas City Art Institute, where he studied printmaking, sculpture, and photography.

Black & White Darkroom Techniques 101

Instructor: Micah Donovan

This course introduces basic darkroom procedures: developing black and white negative film and printing photographs from negatives. You will learn various techniques to enlarge and control the quality of prints with time to develop your own photographs. Each week lesson consists of a short orientation followed by supervised time in the darkroom.

Basic materials are included in course fee.  

Note: The deadline to withdraw from the first class is 5:00 pm on September 26. The deadline to withdraw from the second class is 5:00 pm October 4. A $15 withdrawal fee applies.

Digital Photography – Introduction

Learn how to use your digital camera. The class will be a practical, hands-on introduction to your digital camera and how to use its features. In the first class, we start with the absolute basics, looking at exposure, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, image quality, and other introductory stuff. We will look at intermediate-level features in the second class including white balance, built-in flash, exposure compensation and more. Bring your cameras and your questions!

Lighting and Storytelling in Photography

Instructor: Michael Chambers

The key to photography is the magic of lighting. In this workshop we will examine the nature of light with a special emphasis on lighting models especially while shooting portraits. All aspects of light, natural and artificial, will be explored. Participants will be encouraged to take on assignments reflecting their individual interests. 

This course presents a mentorship program for photography enthusiasts, inviting participants to share their interests and the direction in which they chose to explore.
